Hidalgo County Now Requires Citizens to Wear Mask
Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez has signed a new order require all Hidalgo County Residents to we face coverings while outside their house. There are two exceptions: if you’re driving in your car or if you are exercising. However, it is recommended if you are exercising (running, walking) to keep at least 6ft. distance from anyone around you. The order stated face makes SHOULD NOT be Medical grade masks. Those should be saved for medical workers.
The order also included:
- 24 Hour curfew for anyone under the age of 17, unless accompanied by an adult, performing an essential service or involved in an emergency.
- 18 years + curfew between 11PM – 5AM, unless performing an essential service or involved in an emergency
- If one person in a home tests positive for Covid-19, the entire home must isolate
- Only children of essential workers may receive community childcare services
The new order will last until May 1, 2020.
“The basis for the orders is simple,” Judge Cortez said. “We must all assume we are carrying the virus. Every action we take must be done with the consideration that we will not spread it to those around us. By taking these actions now, we are improving our chances of returning to some sense of normalcy sooner than later.”
